On August 5 and 6, members of Kawagib Moro Human Rights visited Bgy. Magcawa, Albarka municipality where a temporary shelter was set-up by Vice-Mayor Bonni Sali to accommodate the displaced residents of Al-Barka who fled the site where the elements of the Philippine Marines encountered the elements of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front on the morning of July 10, 2007.Social workers from Citizen’s Disaster and Rehabilitation Center and Kadait (Cebuano for solidarity), a local counterpart of CDRC based in the Zamboanga Peninsula, and Kawagib Moro Human Rights visited the victims of all-out war in Basilan.

They visited and interviewed residents of Tipo-Tipo, Albarka, Ungkaya Pukan and Sumisip on September 5-7. These Basilan municipalities became the Philippine Marines’ battleground supposedly in pursuit of Abu Sayyaf bandits who beheaded their fellow marines on July 10, 2007.

Residents, however, complained that they become targets of the military operations.
